Anyone else feel like battery brands are just a lottery sometimes?

I swear, every time I need a new car battery I feel like I'm playing a game of roulette with my money. I've had expensive batteries die in 14 months and cheap ones last over three years, which completely goes against everything you'd expect. My wife's Mercedes has gone through three batteries in four years, each from a different brand, and none of them seemed to outlast the others by any significant margin. Meanwhile my old Nissan Patrol had a no-name battery that somehow survived five summers before I replaced it just out of guilt. I've been doing some reading trying to make sense of it all and came across https://batteryzoneuae.com/top-car-battery-brands-uae/ which at least gave me a decent overview of what's available, but honestly I still don't feel any closer to knowing which one is actually the best. Part of me wonders if it's less about the brand and more about getting a battery that was manufactured recently and stored properly before installation. I've heard stories about shops selling batteries that have been sitting on shelves for a year or more, which obviously shortens their lifespan regardless of how good the brand is. Does anyone actually check the manufacturing date before buying, or am I just being paranoid? Also, does it make a difference if you get the battery from a specialist versus a general auto shop? I'd love to hear if anyone has cracked the code on this because I'm tired of replacing batteries every couple of years and feeling like I'm just throwing money away.
